Lifestyle Design Update

I am coming up with several ideas of ironic redevelopment of generic signage...more to come.

My Expirience

Traditionally speaking, I feel as though I have failed when a project does not work. Sure my idea was a test to see if something was possible, on the scale I was working with I know now it is not. Skills however were developed in my ability to cut glass into small squares. I found that for the amount of work and how little result came from the dish they do not equate. Given the reflective properties of the dish covered in small pieces of mirror, I could probably have obtained the same results by painting the convex with a metallic paint. Overall I do not regret what I did, it was an experience and now I have an interesting art piece to hang on my wall. If I had to do it over again my problem would change. I wanted to utilize the gutter runoff and overflow and distill it into drinking water using solar power. I think that given our climate, Oregon is the worst place to test this. During the rainy seasons when the gutters are overflowing...there is no sun. But when there is sun, there is no rain. The two never seem to be near each other. In a different climate this solution could prove to be much more useful. Other problems I ran into was how to connect the pots together to make the distilling portion of my design. Because the pans that I have are aluminum alloy they have to be welded with a TIG welder and I only have access to a MIG welder (the difference I’m not sure, all I know is there was a warning about explosions so I didn’t wanna mess further). I do feel that my plan is a viable option for water purification in hot climates and only until I can realize it on a larger scale with and actual budget will I know for sure.
